Namie Amuro was born in Naha City, Okinawa, Japan on September 20th, 1977. She was discovered by Masayuki Makino, president of Okinawa Actor's School during adolescence where she studied singing and dancing. On September 16, 1992 she debuted with the quintet SUPER MONKEY'S on Toshiba-EMI. Over the course of three years, the group went through several group members and name changes. Amuro left the group in late 1995 after a string of successful singles. She signed onto the avex trax label under the wing of producer, Tetsuya Komuro. Massive success followed after her spilt with the group garnering her several million selling singles and albums. Her popularity was so immense young women copied her style leading the media to dub them "Amura." Amuro continued her unprecedented success until she announced a quick marriage and pregnancy with TRF dancer SAM in late 1997. She took a year sabbatical to care for her child. A son, Haruto, was born in May the following year.

Amuro returned to the scene on New Year's Eve 1998 with a tearful rendition of "CAN YOU CELEBRATE?" on that year's Kouhaku Utagassen. A new single, "I HAVE NEVER SEEN" was released and debuted at #1. Afterwards, Amuro's sales started to slump. A second comeback single, "RESPECT the POWER OF LOVE" failed to top the charts and she has since been unable to acheive such a feat. In 1999, Amuro released the single "SOMETHING 'BOUT THE KISS" her first production by an international producer. Dallas Austin along with Tetsuya Komuro would write and produce music for her up until 2001 when she severed ties to both producers.

Following the departures of her producers, Amuro released the self-penned "Say the word," her first. After the 9/11 attacks on New York's World Trade Center, Amuro worked with former producer Tetsuya Komuro one last time on the single "lovin' it." It would be the third and last single of the song+nation project benefitting victims of the 9/11 attacks. Collaborating with VERBAL of m-flo on the track, it eventually led to the SUITE CHIC project which began as a set of demos VERBAL had produced for Amuro. Launched in late 2002, SUITE CHIC featuring lead vocals from Amuro along with production from some of Japan's most popular R&B and Hip-Hop producers jumpstarted Amuro's long desired change into a R&B artist. The project ended in 2003 with the release of the successful, "WHEN POP HITS THE FAN" album. Amuro returned to the scene soon after with the first of three dance-oriented singles "shine more." "Put 'Em Up" a leftover Dallas Austin production from 2001 was released after "shine more" followed by "SO CRAZY / Come" later that year.

Before the release of her first post-Tetsuya Komuro album, "STYLE," Amuro launched her largest and longest tour, "namie amuro SO CRAZY tour featuring BEST singles 2003-2004." Spanning seven months, the tour ended in South Korea making her the first Japanese performer to perform a full length concert in the country since the lifting of the ban on Japanese music. In the summer of 2004, she released the single "ALL FOR YOU" which would eventually be the start of a comeback after a long slump. "ALL FOR YOU" along with "GIRL TALK / the SPEED STAR" and "WANT ME, WANT ME" sold over 100,000 copies leading to the multiplatinum hit album, "Queen of Hip-Pop" in 2005.

Shortly after the release of "Queen of Hip-Pop," Amuro toured in support of it on the sold out "Space of Hip-Pop" tour. She would follow the album with the single "White Light / Violet Sauce" and later "CAN'T SLEEP, CAN'T EAT, I'M SICK / Ningyo." Currently, Amuro is touring yet again in "namie amuro BEST tour Live Style 2006." The tour brings her back to arena venues for the first time in 5 years. The tour will end in Okinawa, Japan on November 23rd. It will be her first concert on the island since 1995.

Amuro to appear in new Lipton campaign
Namie Amuro will appear in a second commercial for Lipton that will begin airing on October 2nd. Namie first appeared in Lipton ads for their Lipton Limone drinks, this time she will be featured in ads for their Chiffon Milk Tea line. "Pink Key" from her smash hit album, "PLAY," will also be used in the new commercial.

Amuro adds second leg to already massive national tour
Amuro has added an additional 12 performances to her already massive 53 date national tour. The dates including stops in Nagoya, Tokyo and Osaka will see her perform into the new year. The tour was originally to end on Christmas day, 2007, at the Okinawa Convention Center.
